The Assistant Director of the Student Success Center (SSC) at Virginia Tech is a dynamic leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing the SSC’s peer education programs, providing direct coordination for the Tutoring Program, and developing innovative strategies to enhance student usage of tutoring services across campus. This role involves supervising, recruiting, training, and assessing peer educators, as well as managing multiple programs designed to support academic achievement and student development. The Assistant Director will also contribute to the development of online educational content and provide essential support to the Associate Director of the SSC in the execution and evaluation of all tutoring services and peer education initiatives.
The Assistant Director of the Student Success Center is expected to be a proactive and innovative leader, committed to enhancing the academic success and personal development of students at Virginia Tech. This position requires flexibility in working hours, as some evening and weekend availability may be necessary to support tutoring services and student events.
• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Several years of experience in higher education or a related setting, with a focus on student success, peer education, and/or academic support.
• Strong knowledge of student success initiatives, academic support services, and instructional design.
• Experience with online course development and e-learning platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students across various departments.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with academic software systems (e.g., Banner) and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proven experience in managing tutoring or peer education programs, including recruitment, training, supervision, and assessment of student leaders.
• Experience working with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification programs.
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
