We’re currently searching for a Junior Systems Administrator to join our IT team in Blacksburg, VA, to help support the programs and services of Student Affairs. So, if you are a tech-savvy, customer service-focused individual with an eye for detail and a love of team collaboration, this could be the job for you!

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the IT department in the Division of Student Affairs and serve as a support member of a technical team that services over 900 computer workstations, printers, laptops, and Apple devices utilized by 1200 departmental users accessing Student Affairs network resources.
2) You’ll provide technical support (either in-person, by phone, or by email, via an internal ticketing system) to departmental users and ensure that IT security guidelines and best practices are followed consistently and effectively.
3) You’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and updating end-user hardware and software with an emphasis on troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving computer and network problems promptly while providing excellent customer service.
4) You’ll be expected to understand when and how to escalate issues to the appropriate technical staff to assist in resolving service and computer issues.
5) You’ll be tasked with creating and maintaining technical documentation. Accurate and detailed record keeping is necessary for various reasons including inventory, purchasing, and Network Infrastructure & Services orders.
6) You’ll be reporting directly to the Assistant Director of IT for Student Affairs.
7) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $46,000-$52,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Information Technology or equivalent computer related support experience.
• Proven history of providing excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Previous experience with the following software: Windows and Apple OS environments; Microsoft Office; Microsoft SharePoint; Microsoft Office 365; Outlook; OneDrive; and Google Apps.
• Previous professional experience with:
   o Providing IT support in person, by telephone, or through a ticketing system
   o Creating and maintaining technical documentation
   o Maintaining inventory and fixed assets documentation
   o Installing and maintaining end-user hardware and software
   o Applying software updates and patches to servers and desktop computers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in stressful situations.
• Demonstrated experience in configuring devices for enterprise networks.
• Previous experience performing inventory reconciliations/audits.
• Previous experience with IT security protocols and practices.
• Understanding of and support for IT security practices. Experience with Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, creating and removing accounts.
