Job Description

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) seeks a Grant Administrator to join its Arlington, VA operations. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, the Grant Administrator will assist CCI Research Faculty in planning, managing, and executing Cybersecurity research projects, grant proposals, and programs.

The successful candidate will be part of a high energy team and have the opportunity to connect with and develop long-term strategic partnerships with broad, diverse audiences (faculty, students, corporations, alumni, administrators, etc.) to advance the goals of CCI. The Grant Administrator will learn about new and emerging cyber technologies and assist the CCI leadership and researchers in managing a wide array of cutting-edge cybersecurity research. The successful candidate will work closely with CCI research faculty, Virginia Tech’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and other personnel in reviewing and developing proposals prior to deadlines, developing project and proposal budgets, advising and assisting faculty in the preparation of budgets and narratives for proposals while ensuring compliance with state, university, and sponsor policies, procedures, and requirements. The ideal candidate will possess initiative and the ability to work independently, but in consultation with appropriate parties as needed. They will be able to problem solve and maintain professional composure while working under internal and external deadlines, utilize problem solving skills and excellent customer service skills to work collaboratively and effectively with researchers, faculty, staff, students, and sponsors. Additionally, this Grant Administrator will assist the CCI staff with the planning and execution of events, workshops, and conferences associated with CCI’s research programs.

The Grant Administrator will provide support for all aspects of sponsored research program administration, from pre-award development and submission to post-award management, budget execution, and internal and sponsor reporting requirements.

This position is located in the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington, VA. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within a commutable distance to Arlington to support a weekly in-office presence. Depending on business needs, travel may be necessary support collaborative initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Business, Project Management or related field, or relevant work experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Demonstrated experience with federal (e.g., NSF, DoD, DoE, NIH) and/or non-federal proposal preparation, submission, and contract regulations.
• Demonstrated experience in grant or contract management, research administration, budget execution and accounting, and reporting
• Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance
• Advanced office software with an emphasis on spreadsheets
• Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with a diverse set of constituent groups, including students, corporate partners, government agencies, and university administrators.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must demonstrate an ability to set and manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of IRB process and its impact on awards
• Project administration and/or project management experience, preferably in a research or higher education setting
• Experience with federal funding agency Web submission sites, such as grants.gov
• Experience with ERP tools to include research administration, finance and reporting
• Training and/or expertise in technical writing and understanding of scientific research.
• Demonstrated experience working with faculty to facilitate efficient research administration and/or funding applications.
