Job Description

The Department of Marketing in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. This academic year appointment is for a three-year term and is renewable based on performance and departmental needs. While this is not a tenure-track position, opportunities for advancement in rank are available.
The position focuses on teaching and engagement in the area of Marketing, with a particular emphasis on advertising, social media, and their connection to health and well-being. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses, with the possibility of also teaching MBA-level courses. The typical teaching load ranges from three to four courses per semester, depending on qualifications and service commitments.
In addition to teaching, responsibilities include:
• Supporting student development through academic and career advising, mentoring, and active engagement with student organizations.
• Overseeing student internships and project-based learning experiences.
• Contributing to course and curriculum development, particularly in areas aligned with digital marketing, communications, and well-being.
• Participating in the delivery of outreach programs and collaborating with faculty and students across the Pamplin College of Business on curricular and co-curricular initiatives.
• Serving on departmental, college, or university committees, as assigned.
Assistant Professors of Practice are also expected to maintain strong professional engagement with industry through activities such as executive education, consulting, and involvement in professional societies or associations. These connections should enhance both instructional relevance and opportunities for student engagement with the field.

We seek candidates with expertise in marketing or closely related background. Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must have completed an MBA, Master’s degree, or a Bachelor's degree with substantial, progressive industry experience in Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field.
Must possess the qualifications and professional background appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice, as well as having the demonstrated ability to teach effectively in a classroom setting, with a willingness and ability to deliver in-person instruction on the Blacksburg campus. Additionally, the candidate must obtain motivation and professionalism, with a strong commitment to building and maintaining relationships with industry partners and have a demonstrated interest in student engagement, including mentoring, advising and supporting co-curricular or experiential learning opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to the candidate with significant recent professional experience in advertising, social media, digital marketing, sales, or other closely related areas; experience teaching at the university level or advising students, particularly in marketing-related subjects where the subject matter expertise and practical experience in such areas and focuses of the social media strategy, digital marketing analytics, marketing communications, sales, and their impact on health and well-being. Preference will be extended to the successful candidate who additionally shares evidence of collaboration with academic or professional stakeholders to support student learning and career development.
