Hokie Wellness is a data driven department that relies on best practices and evidence-based strategies to enhance the overall well-being of the Virginia Tech community through trainings, programs, and connection to campus and community resources.
The health promotion and outreach specialist will assist in the administration of programs implemented by the Employee Wellness team, with a specific focus on communication, engagement, and outreach. It is essential that the specialist have a strong foundation in wellness and public health initiatives, as well as, proficiency across different mediums of communication and outreach programming to support all Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and wage employees.
Reporting to the associate director of employee wellness, the health promotion and outreach specialist’s core duties will include:
• Managing the bi-monthly health and wellness newsletter
• Overseeing social media accounts (grounded in evidence-based content)
• Coordinating monthly campus notices
• Taking the lead on email correspondence
• Facilitating new employee orientations
• Conducting and coordinating campus outreach
• Maintaining the Hokie Wellness for Employees website
• Managing educational program team requests
In addition, the health promotion and outreach specialist will regularly collaborate/support the Hokie Wellness Champions, other campus departments, and within the local community to coordinate programs and services for Virginia Tech employees. This position typically oversees a student intern who, in part, helps support communication efforts such as social media and other administrative tasks.
All members of the Employee Wellness team also offer individual resource navigation consultations for employees, serve on committees/working groups, and step in to support the work of other team members as needed. There will be opportunities to use the unique skills and interests of the specialist to deliver programming, when aligned with the mission and aims of the department.
• Bachelor's degree in social/human sciences, health, communications, or related field
• Experience in health/wellness promotion
• Experience with public or large-audience communication
• Master's degree in public health, health communications, or a related field
• Experience in Human Resources or employee engagement
• Experience with:
o PageUp Learning Management System
o Microsoft TEAMS
o Adobe Campaign or similar newsletter design platform
o Basic graphic design with Canva, Adobe Express, etc.
o Social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Link Tree)
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Salary range of $60,000 - $65,000
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
