We’re currently searching for a Part-time licensed mental health clinician to join our Cook Counseling Center team at the Academic Building One campus in Potomac Yard, Alexandria, VA to help us in our mission. HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team; a department centered on promoting student learning, development, retention, and holistic wellbeing by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success.
2) You’ll be reporting to the Assistant Director of Embedded Counseling and Residential Well-being and the on-site administrative supervisor, in a part-time appointment. 
3) You’ll be responsible for providing direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students including initial consultation and assessment, crisis intervention as needed, short-term individual and group counseling, psychiatric referrals, outreach, training, and consultation with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding student mental health concerns. Additional activities may include participation in orientation for new students, educational programming in suicide prevention and/or Community Resiliency Model (CRM).
4) You’ll be offered base compensation of $45.00 – $55.00/hour depending on licensure and years of experience.

The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech. The center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and has a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). We promote student learning, development, retention, and holistic wellbeing by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success. The CCC supports these efforts through psycho-educational programming, individual, group, crisis, and psychiatric services. CCC’s commitment to service also includes multidisciplinary training, consultation, advocacy, and research.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in counseling or social work plus two years of experience or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, from an APA-approved program and be licensed as a licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
• Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills.
• Experience and interest in working with college-student/young adult population.
• Experience managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
• A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
• The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience providing focused therapeutic interventions within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience and interest in collaborating with academic departments, faculty, and staff.
• Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting
• Experience with outreach and educational programming, e.g., prevention programs.
• Experience providing group therapy.
