Job Description

This position provides assistance to a soybean program at the Virginia Tech Tidewater Agricultural Research & Extension Center. Duties include, but are not limited to: Safely load and transport plot planter and combine; Plant and harvest research plots under the direction of the Ag Supervisor; Have the ability to operate a GPS-controlled precision planter and associated computer hardware systems; Assist with packaging seed for variety tests; Collect field data and assist with its entry and processing in a computer database; and Grade soybean seed samples for quality and disease after harvest. This is an off-campus position located at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC), Suffolk, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

General knowledge of crop production; ability and willingness to work outdoors under hot, humid, and/or dusty conditions; experience working independently as well as in a team environment; licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with agronomic research, data collection, seed grading, and computer software; Class A - CDL license to operate a motor vehicle; Ability to load, transport, and operate heavy equipment.
