VTTI seeks an Embedded Systems Engineer to join an established and talented team that is making an impact in the safety and usability of autonomous and traditional vehicles and their onboard electronic systems. This engineer may develop software for advanced data acquisition, human/machine interaction, driver simulators, and much more. This position is part of VTTI’s Division of Freight, Transit, & Heavy Vehicle Safety and will serve as a liaison to VTTI’s Core Tech group as needed.
The position requires the selected candidate to independently evaluate, select and apply engineering principles, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications to existing systems and help develop the next generation of research systems. Assignments will leverage existing technology, combine emerging technology, and produce novel technology to solve interesting research questions. Tasks may involve interfacing to firmware, and hardware for a variety of data collection and automation modules.
The individual filling this role will independently perform most assignments with instructions on global objectives and general results expected. They will receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and work will be reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. The position may supervise/mentor/train and coordinate the work of technicians, graduate research assistants and others who assist in specific assignments.
-Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position or equivalent graduate level education.
-M.S. degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or comparable with exception for a lesser degree with significant related experience.
-Experience writing software in Python, and/or similar modern programming languages.
-Experience with Gnu/Linux.
-Experience writing software for, and configuring, ROS.
-Experience interfacing with various computer components, peripherals, and sensors.
-Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently with little supervision.
-Strong writing and organizational skills.
- Experience writing software in C++ - Experience with vehicle electronics and autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Experience with real time data collection.
- Experience with hardware-software integration Experience in mechanical design and fabrication.
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Starting rate of $70,000, commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
