Job Description

Scholar Support is a department in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs and reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Advising Initiatives (AAI). It serves as a student-facing unit that focuses on the academic success and support of students in the Virginia Tech Advantage program. Our approach is one that includes their academic and professional wellness. Through strategic campus partnerships, resources, one-on-one coaching, and the development of transferable leadership skills the vision is to create a community where students thrive at Virginia Tech.

This full-time (40 hour) advisor position reports to the Director of Scholar Support for the Presidential Scholarship Initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the planning and delivery of one-on-one academic support meetings and additional programming for scholarship students. This position requires a high level of initiative and strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.

Required Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student affairs/development, counseling,educational administration, educational psychology, or another closely related field.
● Commitment of meeting with students participating in the program.
● Experience mentoring and providing academic support.
● Demonstrated record of working with undergraduate students, including those from diversebackgrounds.
● Maintain regular office hours during the week; Office hours are Monday through Friday between 8:00a.m. and 5:00 p.m., though occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

● Excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.
● High initiative level and ability to work independently.
● Ability to effectively collaborate with academic departments, staff, faculty, and administrators.
● Experience working with student organizations.
● Experience with EAB Navigate preferred, not required.
