The Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Small Animal Veterinary Technician/Floater. The position provides technical support to clinical faculty and veterinary students in the medical sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including ward and treatment room management, administering treatments and medications ordered by clinical faculty. Special nursing care procedures may include special diagnostic procedures, infection control/isolation management. Performs critical care nursing procedures in the ICU as directed by clinical faculty and instructs veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills related to ICU/Critical Care. On call for ICU coverage and covers ICU shifts including holidays. Needs to be available to work some weekends. Assists in other areas of the hospital as directed by supervisor.
Licensed or Licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician (LVT); experience in intensive care in a veterinary medical setting; demonstrates knowledge of basic nursing skills; knowledge of CPR; ability to place intravenous catheters; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer).
At least 2 years experience in a veterinary clinical setting.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
Salary; To be commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
