We are currently searching for a dependable Residential Custodian to support our Facilities and Operations team in Blacksburg, VA supporting Student Affairs facilities.
Here’s what you need to know about the role:
1) You'll be joining the Facilities and Operations Housekeeping team; a department centered on serving the student body by keeping their spaces clean and safe.
2) You'll be reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities - Housekeeping, in a Regular twelve-month 100% salaried staff appointment.
3) This dual-role position combines general housekeeping duties with hands-on light maintenance duties within the campus residence halls. The ideal candidate will have experience in housekeeping/cleaning, light repairs, equipment upkeep, and safety compliance, along with a commitment to excellent service.

Key Responsibilities:
• Daily cleaning of student housing, kitchens, bathrooms, and common areas
• Respond to maintenance-related service requests via a work order system
• Clean HVAC vents, replace filters, and service air grills
• Conduct minor plumbing and fixture repairs (e.g., dispensers, clogged drains)
• Change light bulbs and repair fixtures
• Perform light maintenance and repairs on appliances (e.g., microwaves, stoves, washers/dryers) and fitness equipment
• Maintain and repair housekeeping equipment; track inventory and service logs
• Support seasonal upkeep of outdoor residential areas (e.g., grills, volleyball courts, garden beds)
• Ensure safety compliance (OSHA, EHSS) and proper handling of tools and chemicals
• Basic experience with facilities maintenance and/or building systems
• Experience in cleaning institutional, domestic, or commercial areas
• Ability to follow safety standards and technical documentation
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Excellent customer service skills
• Experience using an electronic work order system
• Working knowledge of hand tools and housekeeping equipment
• Ability to interact effectively with various levels of users and occupants of buildings and facilities
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision and to operate within a team-based environment
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am through 4:30pm.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as a driving check with a safe driving record.
