Job Description

Under the supervision of the Manager, Library Service Center, the Library Service Center Specialist enables patron access to library materials and assists in the management of university records held in University Libraries remote storage buildings. Operates motor vehicles and powered lift equipment in support of library courier services and warehouse operations. Promotes the safety of all staff by complying with relevant protocols and participating in training and other activities of the facility health and safety program.

Work location: Library Service Center, Energy Drive, Blacksburg, VA (not on main VT campus)

Required Qualifications

-Proven experience in a front-line customer service environment
-Experience executing complex work tasks with close attention to detail
-Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft or Google Docs)
-Must be able to safely operate powered lifting equipment
-Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
-Must be able to safely, routinely, and independently lift, move boxes and bins weighing 50+ lbs
-Must be able to safely climb and work from highly elevated locations (up to 40 ft. high)
-Must complete provided training to earn certification to use a Raymond order picker within 90 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience working in a warehouse or other high density storage facility
-Experience supporting records management programs
-Experience working in an academic library environment

Must have criminal background check
Must have an acceptable and safe driving record
Must have a driver's license check

Heavy lifting (>50 lbs)
Must be able to work from high places (on ladder, order picker, etc.)
Ability to be certified at operating and training employees on order picker, forklift, or any other similar machine

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
