Job Description

The Chemistry Department Research Stockroom is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to assist the Stockroom Supervisor with daily stockroom operations. Duties include receiving and distributing packages and supplies, maintaining inventory records, assisting with ordering and stocking materials, and supporting faculty, staff, and students with stockroom-related needs.

The successful candidate will be organized; able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; able to communicate effectively; and committed to providing excellent customer service to faculty, staff, and students.

This is a regular 32-hour-per-week benefited position with a primarily daytime weekday schedule.

Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated ability to accurately maintain records and perform routine mathematical calculations.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn university systems and software.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write legibly, weigh, and measure.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transport stockroom materials and packages.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and provide good customer service to faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications

**Preferred qualifications are not required; candidates who meet the required qualifications are encouraged to apply.**

- Experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.
- Education, training, or coursework in chemistry or laboratory sciences.
- Knowledge of chemical storage, handling, and laboratory safety practices.
- Experience with inventory management, shipping/receiving, stockroom, warehouse, retail, or laboratory support operations.
- Experience maintaining inventory records, spreadsheets, requisitions, invoices, or shipping logs.
- Experience loading, unloading, and transporting materials in a safe manner.
- Familiarity with HokieMart or similar purchasing/inventory systems.
- Experience operating equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and handtrucks.
