The Virginia Cyber Range is an agile, fast-paced group that uses modern software development methods, persistent stakeholder outreach, and creative problem-solving to provide educational resources for the next generation of cybersecurity experts, first in Virginia, and then nationwide.
Reporting to the Director of the Virginia Cyber Range, the Operations Manager serves as the operational backbone of Virginia Cyber Range and the US Cyber Range. The position plays a critical role in enabling the Cyber Range to meet its strategic objectives through sound fiscal stewardship, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
The position:
• Helps shape the strategic vision for the organization as a member of the Cyber Range senior leadership team.
• Collaborates closely with the Director to design and execute sustainable operational strategies, ensure institutional compliance, and scale operational systems to support growth.
• Partners with the Division of IT’s business partners, including IT Finance and IT Human Resources, to support the financial and organizational needs of the Cyber Range.
• Oversees communications and business development for the Cyber Range.
• Serves as the primary operational liaison with university partners including Legal, Export Controls, Office of Sponsored Programs, and compliance offices.
• Serves as a trusted advisor and resource to the Cyber Range team, providing guidance on policies and procedures and fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
• Master's degree, or a combination of education, training, and progressive experience that equates to a Master's degree
• Proven experience as a chief of staff, business manager, or similar role with strong budget planning and fiscal management skills
• Advanced experience in project planning and budgeting
• Excellent communications skills, including demonstrated written and public speaking skills
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and teambuilding skills
• Thorough understanding of diverse business processes and strategy development
• Good understanding of research methods and data analytics techniques
• Knowledge of technology security concepts, such as physical security, risk management, business recovery/continuity, legal processes and procedures, investigation protocols, access control, application security, and various other security-related areas
• Business development and customer relations management
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
