Job Description

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Academic Programs office and Agricultural Technology seek a full-time Business Operations Specialist to provide the office with logistical, administrative, and fiscal support. The successful candidate will have a positive team-oriented mindset and foster productive working relationships. The position plays a key role in the day -to-day operations of the office and supports the effectiveness and impact of academic programs through financial management and operational/logistic coordination. Fiscal responsibilities will include purchasing (HokieMart), accounts payable, resolving outstanding encumbrances issues involving accounts payable, faculty and staff travel and non-travel reimbursements, p-card purchases, and budget reconciliation (fintracs). Administrative responsibilities will include supervising student wage workers, scheduling academic programs classrooms and conference room spaces, inventory, computer home use form compliance, key management, facilities and safety coordinator, records management, development of COOP/EAP, network and infrastructure liaison (NIS), logistical support (room reservation, food approval and ordering for unit events), and serve as first person of contact in the office. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to continue professional development especially in areas of fiscal management training. Business Operation Specialist will report to the Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs.

Required Qualifications

- Postsecondary education in office technology or equivalent combination of education, certifications, training and experience.
- Experience providing customer service and interacting professionally with diverse audiences.
- Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or fiscal position.
- Proficiency with computer software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft and Google platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree and previous educational work experience.
- Experience performing fiscal duties in a professional setting
- Experience coordinating multiple projects or operational processes.
- Experience with Virginia Tech systems such as Banner, HokieMart, Emburse, and FINTRACS.
