Reporting to a Custodial Services Supervisor, the Custodial Worker provides services to assure a clean, sanitary and safe environment in assigned facilities. Responsible for meeting high standards of cleanliness in offices, meeting rooms, public areas, bathrooms, custodial closets, and other areas within the facilities. Duties include floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removal of trash, and snow and ice removal from entrance ways and sidewalks. Reports needed equipment and building repair and any unsafe or unusual situations. Responsible for the care and handling of custodial supplies, equipment and assigned keys. Occasionally assists with the preparation of regularly scheduled events.
This position is designated Emergency Personnel, and requires employees to report to work during emergency situations, closings, and per supervisor's instructions.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents, including dilution and dispensing systems.
- Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, twist, and shovel snow.
- Must be able to safely and efficiently operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
- Must be willing and able to learn the use of heavy floor care equipment.
- Experience working with the public and/or customer service experience.
- Knowledge and experience with various cleaning methods.
- Custodial/cleaning experience in an institutional, or commercial cleaning environment (such as hospitality (hotel/motel), commercial cleaning company, manufacturing, health care facilities, etc.)
- Custodial/cleaning experience working in an educational environment (such as universities/college, school systems, etc.)
- Previous experience operating professional cleaning equipment.
- Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb and work on stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, twist, and shovel snow.
- Must be able to safely and efficiently operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.

- Normal work hours are 6 am - 2:30 pm, but work hours may vary to meet management and customer needs.
- May work around large numbers of people especially during class change and special events.
- May be assigned to work in different buildings to meet department needs.
- Must wear employer provided uniforms as instructed by supervisor.
- As situation dictates, must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- This position meets the criteria for issuance of a mobile communication device (such as radio, cellphone, Ipad, Ipod, pager, etc.).
- Devices issued are the responsibility of the employee and are to be returned in satisfactory condition upon separation of employment.
- Devices are to be used according to supervisor instruction and according to relevant policies.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
