Job Description

The Department of Food Science and Technology is seeking a postdoctoral associate to focus on a variety of food safety education projects and programs.

Under the supervision of Dr. H. Lester Schonberger, the selected candidate will develop food safety education materials (Extension factsheets, courses, etc.) for consumers, retail and volunteer food handlers, as well as farmers and farmers market vendors. They will disseminate these materials by training Extension Agents and working with them as partners to deliver these programs. They will evaluate the impact of these programs on participant knowledge and behaviors.

The selected candidate will also assist with writing grant proposals, other scholarly publications, and presentations as applicable to the work. This position is being partially funded by USDA and other external grants.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology, or a related field, earned no more than four years prior to the effective date of the appointment for a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining to be a postdoctoral associate; Strong knowledge of food safety; Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience conducting human subjects research or evaluation; Experience working with Extension Agents within a state Cooperative Extension system; Experience delivering food safety related content to the public; Experience creating Extension materials (publications, presentations, etc.); Experiencing preparing and publishing peer reviewed manuscripts; Experience conducting statistical analysis and accurately interpreting data output.
