Job Description

The primary duties of this Parking Assistant position are to assure a clean, sanitary and safe environment in assigned facilities. Responsible for meeting high standards of cleanliness in offices, public areas, bathrooms, custodial closets, and other areas within the facilities. Duties include floor maintenance, dusting, and removal of trash. Reports needed equipment and building repair and any unsafe or unusual situations. Responsible for the care and handling of custodial supplies, equipment and assigned keys. Occasionally assists with the preparation of regularly scheduled events. As needed, the Assistant may be asked to perform standard parking enforcement duties such as supporting special events, providing customer service to campus visitors, and enforcing parking regulations.

In addition, the incumbent will perform other duties as requested by supervisor, take initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and perform work aligned with the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail.
• Customer service experience with a proven ability to work with diverse customers.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to deal with conflict situations calmly and professionally.
• Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs; bend, stoop, reach push, pull, perform repetitive motion, and twist.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.


Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Virginia Tech campus.
• Custodial/cleaning in an institutional, educational, or commercial cleaning environment (such as hospitality, university/college, school systems, commercial cleaning company, manufacturing, health care facilities.
