Job Description

The project will integrate transcriptomic/bioinformatics techniques, transient transformation, cell and tissue culture, high-resolution microscopy, and gene regulatory network analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading efforts with the crop system Zea mays (corn) to understand and enhance the regeneration of whole plants from single cells. They will also be expected to disseminate their work through presentations at annual professional meetings and through publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher is expected to train/supervise work done by undergraduate students and graduate research assistants involved in the project.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, plant genetics, plant biology, or related fields. Eligibility for this rank requires an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in an appropriate academic field awarded in the previous five years. Experience with plant tissue culture, microscopy, transcriptomics, and bioinformatics is highly desirable, but not all are required. Applicants should be self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic, and be willing to contribute intellectually in a team environment. Excellent communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with protoplast culture and the use of morphogenic transcription factors to enhance regeneration efficiency.
