Job Description

The Virginia Tech Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center (ESAREC) is recruiting a postdoctoral associate to conduct USDA funded research aimed at improving control strategies for fungal pathogens of fresh market cucurbits and snap beans. Primary responsibilities will include race typing Colletotrichum spp. from a state/regional culture collection and the collection, identification, and establishment of fungicide sensitivity profiles for fungal pathogens affecting snap bean pods. Additional research inquiries surrounding these topics are encouraged. The incumbent will also assist in the implement field trials to determine the best disease management recommendations for fungicides and cultivars. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively with the PI and research team. There will be opportunities to expand grant writing skills and refine mentoring approaches with graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in microbiology, plant pathology, horticulture or related field, effective communication skills, and experience in molecular biology and fungal identification/plant diagnostics. Additional experience conducting applied field work and delivering Extension outreach is beneficial.
