Job Title: The Assistant Dean of External Relations and Communications

Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of External Relations and Communications in the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) provides the leadership for comprehensive and effective external relations and communications programs, including the planning, execution, and management of the programs. The position will directly supervise other full-time positions.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Develop, execute and oversee a comprehensive external relations program.
• Principal responsibilities include:
o Increasing the visibility and reputation of the College regionally, nationally, and internationally and building the College’s brand.
o Enhancing existing and building new relationships with a wide range of external audiences.
o CEC liaison with Miami University’s Center for Career Exploration and Success.
o CEC liaison with Miami University’s Admission Division.
o Working collaboratively with all members of the CEC Leadership team in developing strategic
initiatives and goals.
o Representing the College and the Dean in a variety of contexts.

In the area of communications, the Assistant Dean is responsible for supervising the CEC University Communication and Marketing (UCM) position and assist in planning, implementing and overseeing a comprehensive program of internal and external communication efforts of the College.
• Principal responsibilities include:
o Supervising all aspects of the design, development and execution of an effective communications program for CEC that enhances the visibility and reputation of the College.
o Writing or contracting out writing for CEC publications, web site and social media.
o Assisting in correspondence with alumni and other external constituencies.
o Working closely with UCM, the Director of CEC IT, to oversee the content and ADA compliance of the CEC web site.
o Assisting the Dean in the preparation of presentation materials for internal and external audiences.

In the area of Admissions, the Assistant Dean is responsible for managing and ensuring department participation at all Admission events and tours.

In the area of K-12 outreach, the Assistant Dean is responsible for supervising the Assistant Director/Director of K-12 outreach and ensuring Miami CEC has a presence in the surrounding community. This will also require coordination with departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Master’s degree in engineering or computing field with a minimum of two years of experience in a university setting and other leadership experience at an engineering or computing organization.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in engineering, computing or MBA and 10 years or more of broad industrial administration experience; Emphasis on sales and marketing in engineering and computing; Working knowledge of Miami University and the College of Engineering and Computing; Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a broad range of people; Extensive project management experience. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills; Strong organizational skills; Familiarity with desktop publishing software.
