Job Summary:
|
The Department of Employee Health Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Nursing / Nurse Practitioner. The successful candidate will:
- Independently medically evaluate and triage/treat patients (employees, students, contractors, volunteers) coming to the Student and Employee Health Services office.
- Discuss cases with on-duty physician and/or Medical Director when appropriate.
- Prescribe medications, coordinating care, counseling, and provide appropriate patient education as required.
- Order, perform, and monitor test results; provide timely discussion of diagnostic tests with employees, students, contractors, volunteers, etc.
- Initiate and manage treatment, including sick visits, work related injuries, immunization as well as return-to-duty visits.
- Perform pre-employment and annual assessment physical examinations on all new and current hospital employees, in compliance with the New York State 405.3 health code. This may include, when necessary, performing history, TB, mask-fitting, administration of vaccines, drawing blood, PPD placement/reading/Quantiferon Gold testing.
- Collaborate with RN's regularly and during hospital outbreaks (i.e. viral or bacterial infection such as TB, measles, etc.)
- Work closely with the Director of Employee Health Services, and with the Student/Employee Health Office Manager, staff assistants and administrators.

Required Qualifications:
|
- New York State Registered Nurse Licensure with Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Master of Science Degree in Nursing.
- BCLS and ACLS certification.
- Evidence of participation in ongoing education.
- Successful full credentialing at University Hospital Brooklyn.
