Job Summary:
|
The Department of Residential Life at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Staff Associate / Director.
The Director of Residential Life & Services (RLSD) is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of residential students and other housing residents. The RLSD oversees the overall student learning and community development within the residence halls. This position supervises an Assistant Director, Staff Assistants, and Resident Assistants, managing approximately 200-250 residents. The RLSD is dedicated to fostering students' personal, interpersonal, and intellectual growth. The RLSD reports to the Senior Associate Vice President of Finance.
Duties & Responsibilities
The following functions maybe assigned, but are not limited to:
- Budget/Financial Management
- Develop and present the fiscal year Budget in line with SUNY Downstate and SUNY Central guidelines.
- Manage financial reporting for SUNY/DASNY and related entities based on occupancy and RLS revenue projections.
- Ensure purchase orders, requisitions, and credit card payments are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in partnership with the Finance Department.
- Occupancy and Data Management
- Develop and enhance systems to maintain occupancy at budgeted levels.
- Create marketing materials for students and transient guests.
- Responsible for timely rental billing, collection and follow-up.
- Staff Supervision
- Supervise Assistant Director, Staff Assistants, Janitors, Cleaners, and Resident Assistants.
- Hold monthly all-staff meetings and provide performance evaluations.
- Coordinate staff training and the move-in schedule for students.
- Student and Community Support
- Respond to inquiries and calls concerning policies and procedures during off hours.
- Work to enhance overall customer satisfaction.
- Professional Development
- Attend relevant professional meetings and conferences, including SUNYRLHA meetings.
- Management of 440 Lenox Road Nurse's Residence
- Review and sign lease agreements.
- Conduct rent increase analysis based on CPI-U.
- Coordinate maintenance requests with Hospital Facilities operations.
- Interact with tenants to address concerns and improve satisfaction.
- Enforce policies, procedures, and lease agreements.
- Residential Life Expectations
- Residence Hall Directors are responsible for cultivating inclusive communities that respect individual differences and foster a supportive environment. Responsibilities include:
- Promoting behavioral standards and expectations within the community.
- Assisting with conflict resolution between individuals and groups.
- Engaging with community members by fostering social connections.
- Addressing safety, well-being, and facility issues, following Residential Life and university protocols.
- Being available to respond to student crises, including after-hours situations.

Required Qualifications:
|
- Master's Degree and 2-years of residence hall or housing experience,
- or a Bachelor's Degree with 6 to 8-years of experience in university housing programs.
- Experience in self-support budgeting, financial reporting, residential revenue management, billing and collection of rent and contract administration.
- Strong relationship management, collaboration, and customer service skills, with proven experience in facilities management operations.
- Experience supporting students' academic and personal development, including advising student groups and providing leadership training.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking abilities.
- Proven ability to collaborate with a multi-faceted team, including Facilities, Public Safety, Bursar, Admissions, and Student Health Services.
- Flexibility to work irregular and flexible hours.
- Knowledge of Banner and Oracle systems is a plus.
