Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the College of Business and Economics. The individual will manage the content creation process and editorial calendar for the college and utilize effective and efficient writing and editing practices to create and deploy engaging, impactful content. This role’s activities align with: 

  1. promoting the vision, mission, and reputation of the college,
  2. increasing awareness, engagement, and enrollment with prospective students, and
  3. supporting advancement and community engagement efforts.

Requires in-person collaboration and onsite presence, with potential for flexible, hybrid work arrangements in future, subject to agreement with college dean.

Level Scope:

Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Essential Functions:

60% of the time the Communications Manager must:

  • Collaborate with leadership on developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies.
  • Write, edit, and develop marketing materials and communications materials.
  • Adapt and manage multiple projects in evolving landscapes.
  • Establish relationships and collaborate within the college and across campus to regularly inform on activities and accomplishments.
  • Design targeted strategies to boost enrollment and visibility of specific programs.
  • Supervise both formally and informally to work effectively with colleagues, vendors, contract workers, and student employees in marketing and communication content creation.
  • Tailor content for various media platforms including social media, website, presentations, brief video scripts, and print (brochures, flyers).
  • Proactively conduct competitive research and market analysis to identify opportunities with the college’s marketing strategy.

35% of the time the Communications Manager must:

  • Direct special projects that enhance the reputation, visibility and understanding of college.
  • Collaborate with program directors and faculty to identify opportunities for showcasing program successes and innovations in community and industry engagements.
  • Guide the development of content that actively engages key external stakeholders, business organizations, industry partners, and the academic community to boost the college's profile and reputation in the business and academic communities.
  • Research, propose, and implement new communications and marketing initiatives or partnerships.
  • Support engagement efforts, events, and sponsorships.
  • Community Engagement and Public Relations.

5% of the time the Communications Manager must: 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to strategically lead communications efforts that advance the goals of the organization.
  • Demonstrable ability to translate complicated ideas into complete, easy-to-understand narratives and presentations.
  • Excellence in both writing on deadline and directing and editing other writers.
  • Supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines while adapting to immediate demands.
  • Employ data-driven approaches to monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communication plans, including the creation, measurement, optimization, and analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop metrics for and measure the effectiveness of all digital campaigns including return on investment.
Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years relevant experience or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated success in a senior marketing or content strategy position.
  • Experience developing and implementing a strategic marketing plan.
  • Excellent attention to detail in all aspects of writing and communication (e.g. effective storytelling, grammar, spelling, and punctuation).
  • Knowledge of current and emerging marketing trends and best practices in the higher education industry and beyond.
  • Proficient skills in creating content for a variety of modalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and analytics for effective decision making.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a range of content platforms, tools, and tactics including desktop/mobile applications, email marketing software, and familiarity with current and emerging digital communication technologies. (Adobe Creative Cloud, Wordpress, Salesforce, Google Analytics 4, SEM,SEO, PPC, and digital content marketing).
  • Comfortable working with and further learning digital tools to help assist with writing and editing, including ChatGPT and other AI tools.
Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $65,000 to $75,000 annually, depending upon relevant experience.
