Job Summary/Basic Function:

As a Maintenance Craftsman Senior, you will perform surface preparation and application of paints, stains, and related products on buildings, furniture, floors, and similar surfaces. The Maintenance Craftsman Senior also performs light carpentry work under the supervision or assistance of a journeyman.

This position is open to current, regular Boise State employees only.

Level Scope:

Regularly works on tasks that are varied and complex. Applies full range and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; may serve as lead; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help establish procedures in functional area; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.

Essential Functions:

Light Carpentry:
● Replace floor carpet tiles, transition strips, linoleum, laminate and similar products.
● Patch holes in walls using sheetrock, plywood, tile, and plaster.
● Measure and install window shades.
● Assemble furniture and components.
● Maintain tools and equipment associated with painting and carpentry work.
● Replace damaged ceiling tiles.
● Estimate time and materials needed for projects.
● Read and interpret blueprints.

Painting:
● Meets with individuals to define job expectations to be accomplished.
● Selects appropriate products to accomplish job per work order specifications.
● Removes loose or peeling material, etc., so surface is properly prepared.
● Patches cracks, holes, or other damaged areas.
● Repairs and textures walls and similar surfaces.
● Protects adjacent areas before painting by taping and using drop cloths.
● Selects primer and application method based on project needs.
● Uses power sprayers, rollers, brushes, and other equipment for applying paints and stains.
● Checks work and corrects irregularities which would detract from appearance.
● Removes debris from work site and performs general cleanup of work area.
● Selects and maintains tools and equipment for projects.
● Maintains brushes, rollers, trays, sprayers, compressors, and related equipment.
● Stores paints and stains and inventories for future use.
● Completes work orders and TMA data entry logs daily.
● Trains others in applying paint products and using related equipment.
● Assists other maintenance and crafts personnel performing their duties.

Other Duties:
● Assist colleagues on multiple projects (this may include colleagues from other trades).
● Attend project and team meetings.
● Hang banners, signage, and wall mounted items.
● Assist with delivery, setup, and breakdown of equipment for Special Events.
● Conducts preventive maintenance on building devices and systems; operates equipment used in
building maintenance and repair.
● Assures all work orders are completed with all labor and material added to work orders.
● Ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedules
and standards.
● Assures all work is completed in accordance with established safety procedures.
● Enforces all Boise State University safety and risk management policies and procedures; reports
all accidents and injuries in a timely manner and identifies and corrects unsafe work conditions
with management oversight.
● Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
● May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
● Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Good knowledge of: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance.
● Some knowledge of: HVAC and mechanical systems maintenance; building codes.
● Experience: performing skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair; using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work; reading blueprints and schematics.

A valid Driver's License is required.

Supplemental Information:

This position involves driving and transporting materials to various job sites, bending, stooping and climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 50 pounds.
