Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Multimedia Specialist will advance the Boise State University brand by strengthening the visual identity through the art direction and implementation of compelling multimedia storytelling – video, audio, photography – for marketing campaigns, Boise State Magazine, advertisements, special projects, website, social media, design projects and more. Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Creative Director and Managers of Brand Photography and Video, this role will plan and produce best-in-class photo and video shoots from conception to completion in collaboration with stakeholders from across campus, the Office of Communications and Marketing and the visual services team. This role will be responsible for building storyboards, shot lists, scouting locations, coordinating logistics and equipment, scheduling photo and video shoots, capturing visual content and editing.

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Multimedia Specialist must:

  • Apply brand and visual design best practices to the development and creation of print, digital, web, social media and any other visual assets.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in visual storytelling through brand-level photography and videography.
  • Research and develop marketing multimedia features, present initial concepts — storyboards, shot lists, etc. — coordinate photo and video shoots, and capture and edit content.
  • Maintain flexibility and positive attitude in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Research trends in the marketplace and make recommendations to stakeholders on how to incorporate into visual storytelling. 
  • Produce visuals that meet brand standards, as well as disciplinary and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to manage, coordinate, and deliver on visual concepts to effectively communicate to various stakeholder groups and meet project goals.
  • Work effectively on both individual and group projects – demonstrate an ability to work autonomously.
  • Self-starter with the ability to pitch a photo or video concept, and once approved, coordinate all aspects through implementation. 
  • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally, on all aspects of projects including conducting meetings, building creative briefs, planning content, layout and publication of marketing materials, conducting live interviews, engaging in the editing process, meeting project milestones and deadlines, etc. 
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and completing projects on budget. 

35% of Time the Multimedia Specialist must: 

  • Help develop creative briefs to outline the art direction of each project in order to meet campaign and project goals and objectives.
  • Enter and track projects in the project management system.
  • Work with Creative Director and Brand Photography and Video Managers to schedule, lead and direct student workers on photo and visual projects.
  • Complete post-production photo and video editing.
  • Co-manage brand-level photo and video archive and asset management system.
  • Manage and maintains inventory of equipment.

5% of Time the Multimedia Specialist:

  • Completes business processes and administrative duties as needed, including travel, p-card reconciliation, all while staying within budget parameters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of best practices in creative development, design, photography and videography; print production; social media; art directing and implementing brand-level photography and videography. 
  • Ability to build and develop photo and video project plans in creative briefs.
  • Experience developing and producing creative concepts from ideation to completion. 
  • Expert knowledge with photo and video editing software and camera equipment.
  • Experience producing and editing visual assets for many aspects of media utilizing Adobe Creative Suite software, such as Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, Premiere, Express and Spark.
  • Knowledge of DSLR (Nikon preferred) and mirrorless cameras, as well as natural lighting, indoor and studio lighting techniques.
  • Experience developing innovative use of multimedia assets for web, social media, email, website and new technologies.
  • Co-managing the digital visual asset library for OCM and campus partners.
  • Produce photography, video, audio for advertising, marketing campaigns and brand-level materials and digital channels.
  • Ability to interview and communicate with stakeholders during photo and video shoots to successfully capture content to tell the planned story for the project.
  • Ability to generate, cultivate and maintain business relationships internally and externally to the university. 
  • Ability to represent the university in the most positive and professional manner. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of communication related to creative development and project updates with stakeholders from across the university. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate project and stakeholder schedules.
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions and problem solve.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within brand guidelines.
  • Self-starter who has a track record of completing assigned projects on-time and on-budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in videography, photography, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience producing video and photography content.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite and other pertinent design, video, and photo editing software.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging photo and video marketing trends.

Salary and Benefits:
