Department Overview:

The Veteran Services Center assists Veteran students making the transition from the military to university life.

Level Scope:

Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, veterans, dependents, campus partners, and external agencies regarding educational benefits processes, requirements, and timelines.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to ensure efficient daily office functions, including reception coverage and backup financial processing during peak periods or staff absences.
  • Process and maintain documentation for VA educational benefits in compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
  • Review, organize, and submit certification materials; maintain accurate records in university and VA systems.
  • Coordinate with campus offices (e.g., Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Financials, academic departments) to resolve processing and documentation matters.
  • Research, analyze, and compile information to respond to inquiries, resolve routine issues, and prepare correspondence and reports.
  • Exercise discretion in applying policies and procedures while handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Support compliance and reporting activities by monitoring records, tracking submissions, and assisting with required data compilation.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems to ensure audit readiness and accurate record retention.
  • Assist with orientation sessions, outreach efforts, and general office programming.
  • Provide lead support to student staff as needed and assist in ensuring assignments and timelines are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to compose official correspondence, reports, research papers and other complex documents; providing administrative support to an administrator, director or senior staff member; designing manual and automated record management systems.
  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices; bookkeeping; financial software; state and local government organization structure, functions, and decision-making processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Good knowledge of: office support functions including word processing; filing; composing a variety of business documents; reception; and researching, compiling, and summarizing data for reports.
  • Experience: in interpreting, applying and explaining complex information such as regulations, policies or services; independently solving problems/performing liaison activities in a work setting; coordinating activities requiring complex arrangements. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing office or administrative support in a higher education or non-profit setting.
  • Experience using Google Workspace platform and associated tools
Salary and Benefits:
