Position overview:
The Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing, along with Boise State University First-Year Writing Program, invites applications for a Lecturer position with a joint instructional appointment. The position includes a primary appointment in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing and a standing instructional responsibility in the First-Year Writing Program.
The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 course load in Creative Writing, including upper-division courses in poetry, translation, and creative nonfiction, fiction, form & theory, the capstone, and potentially graduate-level seminars. The candidate will also teach a 2/2 course load in the First-Year Writing Program, including courses in the first-year writing sequence (ENGL 101 and ENGL 102). In First-Year Writing, the lecturer will teach within a coordinated, two-course curriculum and will be expected to deliver required course outcomes and major assignments, participate in program-level assessment activities, and support shared instructional goals that promote curricular coherence and student success.
Required participation in the First-Year Writing Program includes attendance at designated FYW in-service meetings, participation in assessment activities directly connected to courses taught, and instructional practices necessary to support the coordinated FYW curriculum and program standards.
Additional teaching, service, and professional responsibilities will be determined by the Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing in accordance with departmental and college expectations for a primary appointment.
This position is well suited for educators who value reflective teaching, curricular alignment, and collaboration within a programmatic writing context. The successful candidate may have previous experience teaching creative nonfiction, poetry, or translation.
This is a renewable nine-month, non-tenure accruing appointment.

The Creative Writing Program is part of the department of Theater, Film and Creative Writing, and a part of the School of the Arts, in the College of Arts and Sciences at Boise State University.
The program offers three undergraduate degrees: a BA and a BFA in Creative Writing and a BA in Narrative Arts as well as a CW minor. The Graduate program offers an MFA in creative writing focusing in either Poetry or Fiction. Boise State’s CW program is home to the award-winning Idaho Review and the unique poetry, poetics and translation book series Free Poetry.
The First-Year Writing Program at Boise State University is a leader in pedagogical innovation, collaboration, and scholarship. Our two-course first-year writing sequence emphasizes inquiry, reflection, rhetorical awareness, writing transfer, ongoing research, and extensive writing in non-fiction, real-world genres. Faculty in the program work toward shared course learning outcomes and common student experiences that reflect best practices in first-year writing instruction. Minimum qualifications:

Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing, TESOL, Technical Writing, English Education, Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, etc.)

At least two years of teaching experience

Current faculty status in the College of Arts and Sciences
Preferred qualifications:

MFA or PhD in Creative Writing or graduate degree in Rhetoric and Composition

Demonstrated experience teaching first-year writing (ENGL 101/102 or equivalent)

Experience teaching within a coordinated or programmatic writing curriculum

Publications such as a book and/or poems, translation, or essays in renowned journals preferred.

Ability to contribute to the instructional mission of both the First-Year Writing Program and Creative Writing

Salary and Benefits:
Salary starts at $56,111.95 and is commensurate with experience/level.
