Job Summary/Basic Function:

The purpose of this position is to work closely with the Director, OIT Communications to develop and provide communications planning, content, and resources for students, faculty, and staff. This role supports IT services by translating technical systems, processes, and changes into clear, user-focused content and resources. The position will design and deliver written communications, digital materials, web content, and technology support resources; collaborate with project managers to plan communication strategies for projects; manage outage and maintenance notifications; and utilize analytics and metrics to assess effectiveness within a cycle of continuous improvement.

Department Overview:

OIT Communications provides strategic communication support for the university’s technology services and initiatives. The team partners with OIT and campus stakeholders to plan, create, and deliver clear, accessible content that helps the university stay informed and engaged with the technology it relies on every day.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Translate technical information into clear, accessible content for different audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, to plan and support communication projects.
  • Coordinate, write, edit, manage, and publish content for OIT websites.
  • Represent OIT in cross-functional meetings with external departments and areas.
  • Work with department colleagues and project managers to develop communication strategies and execute plan items for university projects.
  • Create and deliver visual content, including basic graphics and digital materials.
  • Utilize the university’s customer relationship management system to produce and schedule OIT communications.
  • Assess effectiveness of OIT communication using analytics and established metrics, and use findings to improve content and user understanding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to present and explain complex technical topics, problems, and alternative solutions to others.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and explain complex technical topics, problems, and alternative solutions to others.
  • Experience planning, developing, and executing communications within a strategic project framework.
  • Experience planning and developing communications for products and services. 
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.
  • Technical writing experience communicating complex technical processes and systems for a variety of audiences with varying ranges of technical experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 2 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with WordPress or HTML.
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud and design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

Salary and Benefits:
