Career Services is a team dedicated to student success and building relationships that help students succeed Beyond Boise State. The office supports current students and alumni in exploring careers, gaining meaningful hands-on experience and articulating their stories, particularly through internships and experiential learning. Through career development, employer relations, and strong campus partnerships, Career Services advances the Blueprint for Success by integrating career education and real-world learning throughout the student experience, from first year through graduation and beyond.

Job Summary/Purpose:

The Employer Engagement Specialist plays a key role on the Employer Relations team, building relationships that connect students with meaningful career opportunities. This position supports planning and execution of large- and small-scale career events that bring students and employers together in impactful ways. The specialist also oversees the Career Services Management (CSM) system, (Handshake), ensuring it effectively supports appointments, job postings, events, and employer engagement. As a primary point of contact for employers, this role provides guidance on how to engage with Boise State students and maximize opportunities for connection.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

In this role, you’ll have to opportunity to:

Employer Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary resource and liaison for employers recruiting at Boise State
  • Identify employer needs and recommend effective recruiting strategies
  • Encourage and support a variety of methods for employers to connect with students
  • Assist employers with job postings and event registrations
  • Communicate career events and employer services through targeted outreach
  • Share knowledge of university programs and student populations to support employer recruiting goals

Career Event Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and manage an annual events calendar to engage various student populations with targeted employers
  • Build partnerships across the university to create impactful in-person and virtual events
  • Plan and execute career fairs and other signature events, including logistics and operations
  • Collaborate with marketing and campus partners to ensure strong promotion and participation
  • Evaluate event outcomes and implement continuous improvements

Career Services Management System (CSM) Oversight

  • Administer and enhance Handshake  to support students, employers, and staff
  • Partner with the Handshake relationship manager on updates, troubleshooting, and improvements
  • Train and support staff and student employees in effective system use
  • Guide employers in using the system for job postings, events, and engagement opportunities
  • Review and approve employer registrations and job postings for quality and accuracy

Data and Process Improvement

  • Monitor system usage and gather stakeholder feedback to improve effectiveness
  • Develop processes to promote opportunities to students, alumni, and academic departments
  • Generate reports and insights to support strategic decision-making and continuous improvement

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Strong communication (oral and written), public relations, marketing, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with students and staff of all levels–faculty, administrators, and employers.
  • Knowledge of employer recruiting strategies and policies, human resources, job market trends, and occupational, career, and employment information sources.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize computer applications and databases, and proficiency in Internet usage.
  • Strong technical skills. Able to manage the day-to-day use of Handshake.
  • Strong project management skills along with problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
At a minimum, you will have:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience plus 5 years experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as education, leadership, marketing, social work, or counseling.
  • Experience working in a university career center.
  • Experience administering a Career Services Management System (Handshake).
  • Experience with statistical packages (such as SPS) and strong Excel skills to analyze and communicate large data sets.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary for this role starts at $55,057.60 and depends upon experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
