Job Summary/Basic Function:

Work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and senior management on marketing and business development projects. Direct and coordinate the marketing and public relations activities and lead proposal efforts from kick-off call to proposal submission.

This position will serve as the Communications Lead for the Pacific-Intermountain Network for Education in Semiconductors (PINES) award. They will also oversee outreach, branding, and communications to promote semiconductor education and workforce opportunities across the region. Responsibilities would include managing the website, social media, marketing materials, media relations, partner communications, student recruitment campaigns, and public awareness efforts aligned with the National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME) goals and reporting requirements.

This position will be in person with 1-2 days remote/hybrid schedule. This is a temporary position with an expected duration through July 2027. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Department Overview:

The Microelectronics Education and Research Center (MERC) is the hub for microelectronics innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development in Idaho. Organized within Boise State’s College of Engineering, MERC centralizes and coordinates opportunities for all students in essential career preparation and unique research opportunities alongside expert faculty.

Several workforce development grants have become the signature programs for MERC coming from state, federal, and other funding sources. The goals of each is to bolster microelectronics career pathways for students across the region through K-12 outreach and recruiting, curriculum updates across the university and with other institutions, development of new experiential learning programs, and through external partnerships. The workforce development grants currently housed within MERC establish Boise State as a nationwide leader in semiconductor education and research, while significantly enhancing opportunities for the next generation of professionals entering the workforce.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. Typically hold a Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:
  • Support employee and student marketing initiatives including marketing events, media/social media activity, speaking engagements, trade shows and all other events as needed.
  • Manages the website, social media, marketing materials, media relations, partner communications, student recruitment campaigns, and public awareness efforts.
  • Prioritize support for all marketing and promotional activities, coordinating the creation and dissemination of materials to effectively communicate the mission and events of programs and projects.
  • Manages and oversees outreach, branding, and communications to promote semiconductor education and workforce opportunities across the region.
  • Serve as a point of communication for the center, liaising with internal stakeholders, institutional partners, external collaborators, and industry partners.
  • Develop and coordinate marketing plans for the department.
  • Maintain and update internal communications tools, shared drives, and documentation systems to ensure information accessibility and continuity
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive public relations program that builds cooperative relationships with representatives of community, public interest groups and the media to generate positive, professional name recognition for the specified department.
  • Maintain a sound understanding of departmental and university policies, academic requirements, ability to navigate university channels, and balance the needs of faculty, staff and students.
  • Provides value added input on strategy, resources, teaming partners, and cross selling opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Excellent written, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to create marketing copy, promotional materials, presentations, and other communication content for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, motivate others, and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, processes, and program needs while demonstrating initiative, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating integrated marketing and promotional campaigns across digital, print, email, web, and social media platforms.
  • Experience coordinating events, outreach initiatives, and community engagement activities.
  • Experience using data, analytics, and campaign performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and guide marketing and communication strategies.
  • Proficiency with marketing, design, analytics, and productivity software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and related platforms.
  • Knowledge of branding standards, editing principles, marketing best practices, and social media strategy/content management.
  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or grant-funded programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, collaboration, and community engagement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of events and promotional activities.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years experience or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, promotions, communications, or event coordination.
Salary and Benefits:
