Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position supports the planning and implementation of family programs, communications, and events that contribute to the success and engagement of Boise State University students and their families. This position coordinates family programs and events, including Family Orientation, Convocation, Parent & Family Weekend, and other family engagement initiatives. Responsibilities include supporting family-facing communications while collaborating with campus partners to provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect with the university.

Department Overview:

New Student Programs (NSP) facilitates the successful transition of new students and their families to Boise State University through orientation, transition, welcome, and family engagement programs. By connecting students to campus resources and fostering a sense of belonging, NSP advances student success, engagement, and retention.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Essential Functions:

60% of time the position must:

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of family engagement programs and events, including Family Orientation, Convocation, Parent & Family Weekend, virtual programs, and other family engagement initiatives.
  • Coordinate event logistics, timelines, facilities, staffing, materials, vendors, communications, and other operational needs for assigned programs and events.
  • Supervise and support Bronco Family Ambassador student employees who assist with family engagement programs, events, and outreach.
  • Support the planning and delivery of virtual and in-person programs and opportunities that engage students and families.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate program and event details and provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect with Boise State University.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of program goals, learning outcomes, and assessment activities for family engagement programs and events.
  • Collect participant feedback and assessment information and contribute to recommendations for improving future programs and events.
  • Provide on-site support and represent Family Engagement at programs and events involving students and families.

35% of time the position must:

  • Coordinate family-facing communications and content across multiple communication channels.
  • Develop, update, and maintain content within CampusESP, Boise State’s parent and family portal.
  • Coordinate with Boise State stakeholders to provide families with current and relevant information about university programs, services, resources, and opportunities for family participation, volunteer involvement, and philanthropic engagement.
  • Contribute to communications for families distributed through newsletters, websites, social media, printed publications, and other communication channels.
  • Respond to and triage questions and concerns from families and connect them with appropriate university departments, services, and resources.
  • Serve as a resource to families navigating university processes, services, and programs while maintaining appropriate boundaries related to student privacy and rights.
  • Maintain accurate records related to family engagement and interactions while protecting confidentiality.
  • Develop, update, and distribute family engagement resources for campus partners, including guides, FAQs, training materials, and other resources.
  • Communicate university and division policies, procedures, services, and resources to families as appropriate.
  • Participate in committees, meetings, trainings, and university initiatives relevant to the position as requested by the Director.

5% of time the position must:

  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic event planning, program coordination, and assessment practices.
  • Familiarity with current practices related to family engagement programs and services.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, families, campus partners, and other audiences.
  • Ability to provide responsive, professional, and welcoming customer service, and address routine questions and concerns from families with appropriate discretion.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and complete assignments and projects within established timelines.
  • Ability to coordinate and support programs and events of varying sizes and complexity, including coordinating logistics, communicating with participants and partners, and following established procedures.
  • Ability to provide guidance, training, and communicate clearly with student employees, volunteers and campus partners supporting family programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, campus partners, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn and navigate university policies, procedures, programs, and services and communicate relevant information accurately to families.
  • Ability to develop, update, and maintain accurate, timely, accessible, and audience-appropriate communications and resources for families.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve routine problems, and determine appropriate action within established guidelines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive conversations and information with discretion and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and use participant feedback and other information to support program assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by program and event schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Student Development, Educational Leadership, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education, student affairs, orientation and transition programs, student engagement, enrollment management, family programs, or a related setting.
  • Experience assisting with the planning and coordination of student success programs, initiatives or events that engage college students and their families, including logistics, communications, registration, facilities, staffing, and other event details.
  • Experience developing or coordinating communications, websites, materials or technology platforms designed for families.
  • Experience supervising, training, mentoring, or supporting student employees, interns, volunteers, or peer leaders in day-to-day work activities.
  • Experience coordinating or supporting family participation, volunteer involvement, or philanthropic engagement opportunities.
  • Experience working collaboratively with campus departments, community organizations, or other partners to support programs and services.
  • Experience supporting budgets, tracking expenditures, or coordinating routine financial processes.
  • Experience collecting participant feedback or other program information to support assessment and program improvement.
  • Familiarity with current practices related to family engagement programs and services.
  • Participation in professional associations or professional development opportunities related to higher education, student affairs, orientation, or family programs, such as NODA, NASPA, or AHEPPP.
Physical Demands:

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and requiring wearing hearing protection.

Salary and Benefits:
