Mater Pathology is looking for a Central Specimen Reception Supervisor to join the team! This permanent, full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $39.36 - $43.39 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

Mater Pathology provides exceptional diagnostic services and support for Mater Hospitals, collection centres and clinical trials. We are seeking a highly motivated and autonomous professional to join our team as a Central Specimen Reception Supervisor. This role is crucial in managing relationships, ensuring quality, and improving processes related to laboratory operations and clinical trials activity.

This role involves overseeing certain operational activities within the laboratory, ensuring the successful processing and preparation of clinical specimens for examination and reporting. The secondary role of this position is to act as the key contact for Mater Pathology regarding quotations, initiation, IT system setup, ongoing relationship management, and closure of clinical trials associated with collection, specimen management, testing, and reporting for external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Outcomes:
    • Support evidence-based improvements to ensure translation of research into practice, delivering contemporary, cost-effective, and consistent clinical care and patient outcomes.
    • Monitor and promote awareness of meticulous specimen identification and data transfer to prevent misidentification.
    • Ensure meticulous attention to detail in the quotation, setup, management, and closure of clinical trials.
  • Service and Operational Outcomes:
    • Recognise and address inefficiencies in service provision, continuously improving business processes.
    • Deliver high-standard customer experience through professional appearance and positive personal interactions.
    • Demonstrate advanced data analysis and computer skills in laboratory systems and MS Office suite.
    • Maintain a safe and clean work environment while ensuring patient confidentiality.
    • Coordinate dispatch of trial and other laboratory samples to external testing facilities.
  • Financial Outcomes:
    • Contribute to operational decision-making and identify opportunities for improved financial outcomes.
    • Ensure adequate stock and equipment management processes are in place to meet customer needs and avoid waste.
  • Compliance and Risk:
    • Manage compliance and risk by ensuring direct reports fulfill mandatory and professional competency requirements.
    • Identify, report, respond to, and rectify workplace health and safety concerns.
    • Adhere to departmental quality system procedures and occupational health and safety policies.
  • Performance and Accountability:
    • Ensure direct reports have clear tasks and accountabilities.
    • Guide, coach, and provide constructive feedback to direct reports.
    • Address misidentification errors in a timely manner, supporting staff with additional training and education as required.

About you

A background in customer service and /or >3 years’ experience in a laboratory for healthcare diagnostic services (essential). You will be required to work a 24/7 roster. 

Highly desirable 

  • A Certificate III or IV in Laboratory or Pathology related skills
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Good Clinical Practice accreditation
  • Current CASA Safe Transport of Infectious Substances by Air accreditation
