Mater Human Resource are looking for a Senior Employee Relations Consultant to join the team. Reporting to the Principal Employee Relations Consultant, this permanent, full-time role will be based at our Newstead offices.

Salary range: $57.87 - $61.99 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will provide specialist advice on employment relations matters as directed by the Principal Employee Relations Consultant. You will achieve this by:

  • Provide timely advice, coaching and support to leaders, and staff members on workplace relations matters
  • Effectively manage formal cases in key areas such as performance management, equity, grievance, discipline management and ill and injured workers
  • Support the Principal Employee Relations Consultant and HR Business Partner team in investigations on employee relations matters, makes recommendations and assists with implementing any outcomes of any findings
  • Develop and deliver appropriate training courses for managers and line staff on employee relations policy and practice
  • Provide specialised employment relations advice at a policy, service delivery and committee/project management level
  • Provide advice on matters relating to the correct application and interpretation of industrial agreements, awards, policy and related legislation
  • Provide high level advisory support and case management of employee relations matters including but not limited performance, discipline, complaints and ill health matters
  • Responsible for portfolio management, reporting, reviews and projects as directed by the Principal Employee Relations Consultant
  • Participate as a member of the HR Performance and Safety Team and participate in team meetings and the operationalisation of the objectives of the Employee Relations Team
  • Contribute to the review and implementation of HR management systems, policies, procedures which support best practice and implementation of strategic priorities and business objectives
  • Develop, maintain, update and analyse periodic reports specific to the Employee Relations team
  • Contribute to the development of proactive and effective strategies and related policies and procedures to manage employee relations issues and thereby enhance the provision of employee relations services
  • Work cooperatively and collaborates effectively with other team members, contributing to multi-disciplinary projects, learning from others and drawing on own strengths to solve problems and deliver on workforce strategic objectives
  • Effectively partner with managers and senior staff providing timely coaching, guidance, direction and support regarding sensitive and complex people issues

 

About you

You will have tertiary qualification in Human Resources, or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience in Human Resources or Employee Relations.

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of employee relations frameworks, Legislation, Acts and Awards, and the ability to provide quality specialist advice to senior executives and line managers on human resource management issues.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, evidenced by the ability to engage clientele and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • High level writing, research and reporting skills including high-quality executive reports, briefing papers, submissions, plans, consultative documents and discussion papers.
  • High level time management and prioritisation skills, accomplishing multiple tasks within specific time frames.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of complex employee relations and human resources matters.
  • Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to work in a team to achieve outcomes.
  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical, decision making and problem-solving skill.
