About the role

Mater Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Breast Care Clinical Nurse Consultant to work in the Ambulatory & Outpatients (AOPS) team. This position is being offered in a permanent part time basis working, 24 hours per week (3 days per week).

The Breast Care CNC role is fundamental to patient care for women diagnosed with breast cancer from diagnosis and through the patient journey. The CNC provides expert clinical consultancy, takes a lead role in the promotion of contemporary Nursing practice, is actively involved in research, education and continuous quality improvement and facilitates the development of Nursing/Midwifery services across the continuum of care. 

Salary range: $61.67 - $69.22 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert advice and care to breast cancer patients, their families and other health care professionals on complex issues relating to their health and well-being at various phases of their care. 
  • Liaising with the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure consistent patient outcomes between the various specialties & subspecialties 
  • Coordination of procedure/surgery dates for patients who are deemed ready for care
  • Tracking patients through their journey to ensure appointments, tests, procedures, surgeries and follow up is attended, in relation to elective procedures and clinic appointments.
  • Communication with other internal and external health professionals to provide safe collaborative patient care.
  • Establish priorities for resolution of identified health needs in consultation with the patient or group of patients.
  • Acts as a patient advocate ensuring patients are informed prior to treatment, assisting/negotiating sensitively with patients where there may be barriers to understanding.
  • Screening patients for eligibility to participate in research studies and trials
  • Actively participating in Nursing Portfolios – Specialty specific and CSQU Audit Schedule

About you

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Prior experience as Breast Care Nurse will be highly regarded
  • Current registration as Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Tertiary qualification (or working towards) in an appropriate speciality which enhances clinical leadership
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership skills, organisational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development of yourself and staff members
  • Demonstrated experience working with an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated role modelling and promotion of the Mater values
