Mater Private Hospital Townsville is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for our dedicated internal nurses. We are seeking applications for a temporary Nurse Unit Manager position in our Surgical department to provide leave cover. This is a fantastic chance for our internal nurses to showcase their skills and take on a leadership role within our renowned hospital. This successful applicant will be offered a 12-month fixed term maternity leave contract, where you will work 38 hours a week.

The Nurse Unit Manager is at the forefront of directing and coordinating care that is underpinned by contemporary, safe, coordinated and high-quality patient-centred care across the multidisciplinary environment of their unit. The role is responsible for the operational, professional and clinical service management of their People and resources.

Salary range: $76.80 (NUM level 3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the leader of this team, you will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education, research and material accountabilities of nursing within this area.  Additionally, in conjunction with the medical leadership of the service, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality and safety aspects of patient care. 

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Caring for and leading a team of professionals
  • Communication and coordination of patient care
  • Engagement with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the highest quality patient care, that services are efficient, that patient safety is optimized, and to resolve barriers to patient flow.
  • Team management, including performance management and compliance with Human Resources processes.
  • Delivery of work against relevant timeframes

About you

Your highly developed clinical and management leadership skills will see you leading the team, and your drive and innovative approach will see you further developing the modes of care to improve the experience and outcomes for patients.

To be considered for the role you must have:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with no limitations in practice;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ relevant experience working in a surgical environment 
  • Prior comparable experience in a leadership/supervisory role in a health care environment;
  • High level communication skills within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated competence in cost centre management
  • Willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
