About the role

Mater Mothers’ Hospital is currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Clinical Midwifery Consultant - Ambulatory Services.

The Clinical Nurse/Midwifery Consultant (CMC) is a Registered Nurse/Midwife who provides expert clinical consultancy, takes a lead role in the promotion of contemporary Nursing/Midwifery practice, is actively involved in research, education and continuous quality improvement and facilitates the development of Nursing/Midwifery services across the continuum of care. 

In this role, the key stakeholders involved will include healthcare providers, pregnant women, their partners, and future parents. The main objective is to promote and embed preventative healthcare and screening practices. The CMC will work closely with healthcare providers to ensure that guidelines for antenatal preventative healthcare and screening are followed effectively. This will involve educating and training healthcare professionals to optimise their practices in line with evidence-based care.

The CMC will lead quality improvement initiatives and implementation of recommendations as well as quarterly reporting requirements for the initiatives.

Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing 

In supporting the Healthier Pregnancy Initiative under the Putting Queensland Kids First (PQKF) to improve preventative healthcare and screening practices for women and pregnant people at Mater Mothers Hospital. The CMC will have four focus areas:

  • Provide clinical facilitation capacity to embed preventive health care and screening, along side triaging of at-risk women
  • Optimise guideline-recommended antenatal preventative health care and screening practices
  • Provide intensive smoking/vaping cessation support for pregnant  women and their partners
  • Preconception health promotion to enable and empower future parent to access prevention programs and improve health and wellbeing prior to conception

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Bachelor of Midwifery or dual degree Nursing/Midwifery
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (no restrictions)
  • Minimum of five years full time experience in specific clinical specialty including experience as a Clinical Midwife or other leadership role.
