About the role

Expressions of interest are open for the Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM) – Midwifery Group Practice, for multiple ARL coverage required over the next 12 months at South Brisbane.

Responsible for the clinical and operational management of our Midwifery Group Practice takes overall responsibility for the health care environment and standard of patient care. As the registered midwife in charge of the program, the MUM performs as a clinical leader and manager with accountability for culture, quality and safety, patient flow, financial management, change management and the experience of women and families throughout their pregnancy journey.

Mater’s MGP Program enables women to be cared for and supported by a group of known midwives throughout their pregnancy, during birth and in the early weeks at home with a new baby. This model recognises the benefits of continuity of care and enables midwives to work flexibly and to their full scope of practice. Midwifery Group Practice at Mater is made up of 8 teams of midwives, providing care in outreach clinics, refugee, young women's and high-risk obstetric models.  

Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Clinical expertise/Patient care

Suitable applicants for this role will be a Registered or Clinical Midwife with: 

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife 
• Current advanced clinical knowledge and experience in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care 
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills 
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment 
• Proven high level competence in leading and managing clinical teams 
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a clinical cost centre 
• Previous experience working in a Midwifery Group Practice 
• Tertiary qualification in Midwifery, health administration or management, clinical leadership, budget management and finance (or working towards) 
• Advanced clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of midwifery practice
