Mater is currently accepting applications for the Manager of Central Staffing position. Reporting to the Director Recruitment Workforce Planning & Analytics, the permanent, full-time role is based at our South Brisbane campus.
The Manager, Central Staffing Office (CSO), plays a pivotal leadership role in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating Mater Health's Nursing and Midwifery Relief Workforce. Collaborating closely with Nursing and Midwifery Managers, this position combines strategic oversight with operational responsibility to ensure safe, appropriate, cost effective and timely staffing across all clinical areas and associated services, delivering high-quality patient care around the clock.
Salary range: $141,611 - $152, 972 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Workforce Planning – Drive innovative workforce models that focus on aligning staffing with patient care needs, ensure optimal shift coverage to meet service demands, and embed long-term sustainable rostering practices.
- Clinical Leadership – Provide strategic and operational leadership, foster a collaborative and high performing team culture, and contribute to the delivery of safe, person-centred care.
- Quality & Safety Focus – Manage risks, ensure compliance with legislative and accreditation standards, and champion continuous improvement initiatives.
- Financial & Resource Management – Manage workforce budgets and resource allocation to support efficient, high-quality service delivery and strong financial outcomes.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance – Implement and support Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure clarity and accountability of roles and responsibilities.
- Stakeholder Management - Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to align staffing strategies with business needs and maintain strong relationships with nursing agencies and other key external service providers to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Workforce Management System (ShiftMatch) – Provide strategic oversight and optimisation of the ShiftMatch software, including operational management, reporting and analytics, stakeholder management, training and support and cost management.
- Professional Growth & Research – Support staff development through education, mentoring, and coaching, while promoting evidence-based practice and clinical research.
- Communication & Accountability – Promote open communication, provide clear feedback, and uphold a culture of accountability, transparency, and performance excellence.
About you
You will have a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and tertiary qualification/s in specialty, health administration or management, clinical leadership, budget management and finance (or working towards). You will also meet the below criteria:
- Minimum of five years full time experience in specific clinical specialty including experience as a Clinical Nurse or other leadership role
- Minimum of five years full time experience in specific clinical specialty including experience as a Clinical Nurse or other leadership role
- High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at various levels to achieve outcomes
- Extensive leadership experience within a nursing unit in a complex hospital environment
- Experience in workforce planning and a basic understanding of workforce planning practises (highly desirable)
- The ability to interpret, analyse and apply workforce data is desirable (highly desirable)
- Experience in managing a workforce management solution (ShiftMatch) is highly desirable
- An understanding of performance measures, service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators is desirable
