About the role

Mater Pathology has an exciting opportunity for an internal Scientist to step up into a Supervising Scientist within the Stat Laboratory. This is a permanent full-time role working 38 hours a week, where you may be required to work across all shifts including evenings and over nights. 

The role of Supervising Scientist is to deliver a high-quality and cost-effective diagnostic service on behalf of Mater Pathology for our Stat Laboratories. You will utilize contemporary technology and best practice standards for clinicians and their patients. Additionally, you will provide strategic direction for the implementation of small multidisciplinary stat laboratories as operationally required. Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with key clinical groups and customers is also a key responsibility.

Salary range: $73.12 - $76.30 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead strategic direction in Chemical Pathology for high-quality clinical care and cost-effective service delivery
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Manage budget, resources, and compliance with regulatory requirements for financial sustainability
  • Ensure quality assurance programs, equipment safety, and efficient resource management
  • Provide leadership in risk management, workplace health, and safety
  • Foster interprofessional relationships and represent Mater Pathology in key forums
  • Develop performance objectives, provide feedback, and drive accountability within the team
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise, scientific judgment, and commitment to professional development

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Chemistry
  • Extensive operational experience and scientific knowledge
  • Post-graduate qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science or Management are highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement
  • Strong leadership skills to manage resources, budget, and operational performance
  • Compliance-oriented with a focus on quality assurance and risk management
