About the role

Mater at Home is currently looking for a Quality and Safety Associate to join the team on a 6 month Fixed Term basis based at our South Brisbane campus. This role is Permanent Part-time working 19 hours per week. 

The position will provide leadership and support to Quality and Safety Manager Health Integration and Community Care department managers. The role will implement quality and risk management systems and improve quality and safety outcomes as well as incident and complaint investigations.

This position reports directly to the Director Mater at Home and is responsible for activities as delegated relating to Quality and Clinical Safety Management, and accreditation, across the Mater at Home (Nursing and Allied Health), which are essential to the licensing, service level agreements and contracts.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership and support to Director Mater at Home, Mater at Home Nursing Operations Manager and Hospital/Service Quality and Safety Manager to implement quality and risk management systems and improve quality and safety outcomes across the entire department
  • Provide leadership and support to Director Mater at Home, Mater at Home Nursing Operations Manager and Hospital/Service Quality and Safety Manager in incident and complaint investigation and coordinate actions to prevent recurrence
  • Support/ facilitate the implementation of innovation and systems improvement that eliminate/reduce patient harm
  • Work collaboratively with other clinicians to facilitate process improvement strategies that support patient safety and the achievement of quality and safety goals
  • Collect and analyse patient safety and clinical outcome data to evidence the effectiveness of the quality and safety system
  • Evaluate quality and safety outcome data to identify opportunities for continual improvement and make recommendation to relevant hospital committees
  • Work in collaboration with the Director Mater at Home, Mater at Home Nursing Operations Manager and Hospital/Service Quality and Safety Manager, to coordinate the implementation of recommendations arising from root cause analysis or other system or case review
  • Work across all areas of Mater at Home, including both Nursing and Allied Health, to ensure consistent quality and safety practices and outcomes
  • Monitor literature and professional organisations for new or revised best practice related to quality and safety
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the hospital’s quality and safety program based on internal needs and external requirements and standards
  • Provide education / training related to quality and safety, incident investigation and management and the use of Incident reporting tools as required
  • Perform other duties as delegated

About you

To be successful in your application you will have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline. Ideally, you will also have at least 5 years frontline clinical experience and intermediate/advanced Microsoft Office skills.

The successful applicant will also have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in health service delivery with appropriate clinical knowledge, experience and skills is essential including a basic understanding of care processes provided in multiple areas of the hospital;
  • Experience in health care accreditation and regulatory requirements;
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement initiatives and their practical application in the achievement of customer service/ delivery needs;
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced analytical skills to trend and interpret data and provide reports on data / information used for projects, evaluation and process improvement activities;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing working relationships to achieved identified outcomes and an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team; and
  • Capable to provide empathetic communication in difficult situations.

You will also have knowledge of risk management principles and issues regarding patient safety; developed analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively lead and implement change in a complex environment.
