Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for an Assistant Director of Clinical Services (ADCS) – Womens, Paediatrics & Babies to join us in a permanent, full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, this role will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the Assistant Director of Clinical Services is responsible for delivering the strategic and operational accountabilities for the service, ensuring that safe, high quality patient centred care is delivered, and a culture is promoted that is in keeping with the health care mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy. The role is accountable for ensuring the highest of clinical standards is maintained, financial and business objectives are met, and patient experience is exceeded. 

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

 What you’ll be doing 

  • Be part of a once in a generation opportunity to help open, commission and deliver services for a brand new public hospital.
  • Implement systems to support safe, evidence-based, and comprehensive clinical care, while identifying and addressing risks and deviations from standards.
  • Collaborate in developing and implementing policies and practices for both clinical and non-clinical services, ensuring continuity and integration of care.
  • Actively partner with consumers and external health services in the design, delivery, and evaluation of healthcare services.
  • Lead and support innovative models of care and prioritises clinical practice improvements using evidence-based research.
  • Oversee financial performance, resource allocation, budgeting, and operational efficiency to meet strategic goals.
  • Utilises risk, performance, and business metrics to guide decisions, benchmark outcomes, and report on clinical, workforce, and financial indicators.
  • Ensure workforce compliance with legislation, safety, quality standards, and WHS obligations, while maintaining legal and contractual responsibilities.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership, fostering collaboration, professional development, and a positive, patient-focused culture.
  • Maintain leadership capability by developing clear accountabilities, performance feedback systems, and succession planning for key roles.
  • Contribute to setting strategic direction, represents the service internally and externally, and aligns service delivery with broader Mater goals.

 About you 

You will have relevant registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and Tertiary qualifications in health management, business or related disciplines. You will also meet the below criteria:

  • Comprehensive understanding of public and private health systems
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary models of care
  • Foundation in data analysis and research interpretation
  • Sound knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical, financial & operational leadership
