About the role

The Mater Department of Dietetics and Foodservices is currently seeking a motivated and team-orientated new graduate dietitian to join the team on a Maximum term, full-time 12 month contract.

Dietitians at Mater Health provide comprehensive, high quality, evidence-based Nutrition and Dietetics services to both adult and paediatric patients within Mater Public and Private hospitals located at the South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Demonstrated entry level professional knowledge, clinical expertise, skill, judgment and problem solving ability in Nutrition and Dietetics, and ability to apply established evidence based practice principles to nutrition assessment, implementation and evaluation of clinical services.
  • Manage an allocated clinical workload to deliver professional level Dietetic services to patients at any of the Mater Hospitals and across the continuum of care, in accordance with professional and ethical standards and within well-established clinical and departmental protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to more complex clinical decision making under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in a large team as well as. multidisciplinary teams, working cooperatively and effectively within the team and with patients/clients to provide high quality patient care.
  • Ability to liaise with and provide direction to Nutrition Assistants with respect to organising and monitoring patient’s nutrition support to ensure a high quality nutrition service.
  • Provide clinical education in Nutrition and Dietetics related topics including clinical practice and operational supervision to Dietetic students on professional placements and other health professionals where applicable
  • Ability to work under the clinical practice supervision of more senior practitioners.
  • Develop clinical practice knowledge and expertise through actively participating in professional development activities, including local professional development activities, the Dietitians’ Association of Australian Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) program and performance appraisal and development planning.

About you

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have successfully completed a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in the last 12 months, have less than 6 months working experience, and be eligible for Provisional Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) status with Dietitians Australia. 

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Nutrition and Dietetics service in a hospital setting
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement, evidence-based practice and professional development
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) and time management skills, including the ability to work collaboratively within the Nutrition and Dietetics Department and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
