About the role

Mater at Home is currently seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Assistants in Nursing to join our dedicated team on a permanent basis. These positions offer multiple hours and are based at our South Brisbane campus.

The Mater at Home Assistant in Nursing is a dynamic role providing broad support for activities of daily living to Mater at Home patients. Mater at Home operates to deliver a high standard of care in the safety and comfort of a person’s residence.

Salary range: $32.20 - $33.88 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide personal care to acutely unwell clients in their own homes, including assistance with hygiene, mobility, and nutrition.
  • Perform basic clinical observations and promptly report changes in patient condition to the supervising Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with maintaining clinical supplies and equipment in patients’ homes.
  • Support the Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, and evaluating patient care.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and secure healthcare environment for patients and staff.
  • Stock maintenance, including rotation and restocking.
  • Equipment cleaning and general maintenance.
  • Defrosting, cleaning and monitoring the temperature of clinical refrigeration.
  • Storage unit cleaning and general maintenance i.e. cupboards, shelves and trolleys.
  • Transportation of specimens and medical records on campus and within the community.
  • Promote patient dignity, independence, and well-being through respectful and culturally sensitive care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to Mater’s policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct, including infection control and safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

About you

  • Hold a current open driver’s licence with no restrictions.
  • Certificate III qualification in Individual Support or Health Services Assistance or studying towards equivalent or higher qualification.
  • Prior comparable experience as an Assistant in Nursing highly desired. 
  • Previous experience in community care will be highly regarded.
  • Digital and computer proficiency, extending to Microsoft 365 applications.
  • High standard of communication skills.
  • Ability to liaise with other clinical staff as required.
  • Capacity to work harmoniously with others in a team.
