Mater is looking for a Maintenance Officer - HV Electrical & Instrumentation to join the Mater Private Hospital. This permanent, full-time role is will work across both our Pimlico and Hyde Park campuses.

Carry out maintenance services on equipment, systems, and processes to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of hospital electrical assets.

Salary range: $53.74 - $55.92 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

You will carry out maintenance services on equipment, systems, and processes to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of hospital electrical assets.

  • Perform assigned maintenance tasks within personal competence, ensuring adherence to policies, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Deliver maintenance, repairs, and modifications across hospital facilities, including after-hours and on-call responsibilities.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, standards, and infection control practices, and report incidents or hazards promptly.
  • Develop and optimise maintenance schedules, coordinate contractors, and contribute to long-term plant and equipment strategies.
  • Accurately complete work orders, reports, procurement, and compliance records using designated electronic systems.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to team members; lead safety initiatives and contribute to technical knowledge development.
  • Contribute to cost control, budgeting, and efficiency improvements while ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations.
  • Model organisational values, maintain required training, participate in quality improvement, and support interdepartmental collaboration.

About you

You will hold a Queensland Electrical Fitter Mechanic License and at least 5 years post trade experience in an Electrical Trade or Electrical Instrumentation role in a health services or industrial environment (e.g. hospital, power generation, chemical processing). You will also meet the below criteria:

  • Current manual driver’s license (C Class)
  • Experience in delivering technical projects in a safe, timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • A demonstrated capacity and willingness to train and mentor others in technical areas.
  • Understanding and application of Safe Systems of Work (e.g. Permit to Work, HV Switching).
  • Proficient in the use of computerised systems (e.g. Control System HMI, maintenance management system, processing of documentation relating to the role).
  • Established ability to investigate and identify faults in plant and process systems using recognised investigation techniques
  • Ability to communicate confidently in both written and oral forms at all levels within the organisation and to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cert III or Cert IV in Instrumentation (currently possess or commitment to obtain) (desired)
  • High Voltage Isolation and Access procedures (HVIA) qualification (desired)
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. (desired)
