About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane’s Acute Medical Ward have an exciting internal opportunity for an experienced Nurse to develop their leadership skills in this permanent, full-time Nurse Unit Manager position at South Brisbane.

This ward provides early comprehensive assessment and ongoing care for acute patients under the care of an inpatient Medical team, including sub-specialty areas of Respiratory, Opthomology, Infectious Diseases, Endocrinology, Dermatology and the Chest Pain Assessment Serviceopthomolgy.

Salary range: $71.42  - $76.80 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

 

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): 

  • Management of our general medical ward in partnership with our medical, nursing, allied health and administrative teams
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for clinical service development and improvement in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Clinical Services – Inpatients, Emergency Department and Patient Flow
  • Developing, improving and monitoring systems and processes to ensure service is managed effectively and efficiently
  • Professional line management of the nursing team
  • Leading by example to provide high level clinical care for our patients
  • Utilising expert level communication strategies to guide the team in achieving the unit’s goals

About you

Your highly developed clinical and management leadership skills will see you leading the team, and your drive and innovative approach will see you further developing the models of care to improve the experience and outcomes for patients.

 To be considered for the role you must have:

  • 5 years post-graduate specialty nursing experience, preferable in the unit’s specialties
  • Current AHPRA nursing registration with no restrictions
  • Solid understanding of private health care
  • Proven use of exceptional communication skill to motivate and lead a team to achieve goals
  • Strong change management skills and influencing/negotiating experience
  • Excellent time management skills
