Mater Research are looking for a Senior Research Assistant to join the team! This full-time, permanent role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $41.47 - $44.69 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The Senior Research Assistant in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at Mater Research is responsible for contributing to research efforts and developing expertise in understanding gut inflammation and its relation to inflammatory bowel disease through various molecular techniques and experimental models.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in designing, executing, and controlling research studies
  • Coordinate data processing and analysis
  • Conduct experimental tests and procedures
  • Analyse literature relevant to the research area
  • Assist in preparing research papers for publication and presentations
  • Organise data for funding proposals
  • Manage laboratory organisation, including ordering and stocktake
  • Manage animal colonies and the Mater IBD biobank
  • Assist in clinical trial sample procurement and processing
  • Assist in training RHD students
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with WHS standards

About you

The ideal candidate for this role is a Research Assistant with a Research Higher Degree in Science or related field, possessing strong research and laboratory skills, experience in animal models of disease, and proficiency in molecular biology techniques.

Necessary Qualifications, Skills, and Experience include:

  • Research Higher Degree in Science or related discipline
  • Strong research and laboratory skills
  • Experience in animal models of disease
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, cloning)
  • High level interpersonal skills for effective communication
  • Knowledge of data management systems
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Organisational skills for managing large amounts of samples
  • Previous experience managing mouse breeding (desirable)
  • Experience managing budgets (desirable)
