About the role

Mater Dietetics and Food Services team have an exciting opportunity for a Dietetic Assistant to join the team on a casual basis based at our South Brisbane campus.

Mater Dietetics and Food Services department provides comprehensive, high quality, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic services to all hospitals in Mater Group. We are a recognised leader in many areas of clinical nutrition, including food services, metabolic nutrition, paediatric nutrition and dietetics. Dietetic Assistants are a valued part of our service, complementing the role of Dietitians and contributing directly to the care and wellbeing of our patients.

Salary range: $34.02 - $35.66 per hour plus 12% superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will provide clinical and operational support to Dietitians across all Mater hospitals. Your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Delivering clinical nutrition and dietetic support services to patients under the direction of senior staff within Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Interpreting data from relevant databases to generate appropriate feed production
  • Taking responsibility for the daily production, storage, and delivery of formula milk in line with hospital procedures
  • Receiving, storing, tracking, and dispensing expressed breast milk, pasteurised donor human milk, and milk for donation in accordance with hospital protocols
  • Performing malnutrition screening and related assessment processes
  • Managing relevant clinical documentation
  • Contributing to quality improvement and service development within the department

This position will be required to cover the full range of shifts of length of 6-8 hours within the service hours of operation, (8:00am to 7:30pm, 7 days a week, including public holidays).

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to manage competing demands
  • High level of literacy, numeracy, and computer skills
  • Previous experience or competency in a hospital formula preparation room (highly valued)
  • Previous experience as a food service or as a dietitian assistant (highly valued)
  • Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Nutrition & Dietetic Assistance), or progress towards this qualification), will be well regarded though not essential
