About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Clinical Services to join the team at our South Brisbane Campus. Reporting to the General Manager, this is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality clinical services, driving strategic initiatives, and supporting a culture of excellence in care. This role is permanent full time, 38 hours per week.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Director of Clinical Services (DCS) is responsible for the clinical strategic and operational leadership and management. Comprising of medical, surgical, perioperative and procedural, critical care, outpatient clinics and cancer care services. The DCS is accountable for upholding Mater’s Mission, Vision and Values, and aligning the hospitals strategic plans and goals to Mater Health and the Mater strategic plan. The role ensures optimal performance in service delivery through contemporary approaches to healthcare provision and places emphasis on the successful integration of education and research with health services.
The role is accountable for the implementation of governance and policy, related to clinical practice and advocates for and enables the integration of education and research. You will achieve this by:
- Drives delivery of clinical services that meet patient and consumer needs and achieves excellence in clinical standards and health outcomes across health provision facilities
- Ensures strong clinical governance through providing advice on development and then the implementation of standards in clinical policy
- Actively partners with consumers and patients, as well as inter-professional colleagues, to determine service and operational strategies that align with the Mater plans
- Maintains and strengthens relationships with community, universities, professional bodies, government and non-government agencies to inform and enhance services
- Actively manages budget, resources, assets and leave requirements/liabilities to deliver strong financial performance
- Provides information to ensure regular reporting on financial and operational performance and risk, and other relevant business measures
- Leveraging clinical service delivery for education, research, and improved patient outcomes
- Promoting the translation of research and evidence into practice
- Identifies opportunities for financial improvement and efficient management
About you
You will have tertiary qualifications in health management, business or related disciplines with demonstrated experience working effectively with both health and non-health related sectors to achieve shared outcomes.
You will also meet the below criteria:
- Relevant registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
- 5 years post-basic or post-graduate nursing experience
- Proven previous experience managing a large, complex health provision organisation
- Significant experience in leading: A large integrated, multidisciplinary workforce comprising of both clinical and non-clinical team members; and multiple acute care facilities and/or a state-wide hospital network
- Significant experience in leading public acute services
- Strong skills as a contemporary leader, and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain high performing, cohesive and collaborative teams where team members are supported to maximise their potential
- High level interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills to assist the achievement of positive relationships with staff, unions, external agencies, professional bodies and representatives of stakeholder organisations
- The ability to effectively deal with complexity and ambiguity. Requires the skill to analyse data, seek and draw linkages between key sources of information, and show initiative in developing innovative solutions
- A demonstrated history of effective and astute business management
