About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane Perioperative Department currently has an internal vacancy for an experienced Registered Nurse to step into a Clinical Nurse role within Recovery/PACU. This position will be offered on a maximum term 10-month contract, full time 38 hours per week.

This is a key role supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in coordinating safe, high-quality perioperative care, with a focus on leadership, staff development, and clinical governance in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Salary range: $54.45 - $58.30 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide advanced clinical support across PACU
  • Lead by example to uphold safe, efficient care throughout the patient journey
  • Assist in managing daily operations and responding to clinical escalation
  • Support quality and safety initiatives including risk, audits, and infection prevention
  • Mentor and guide junior staff, contributing to a culture of continuous learning
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge aligned with best practice standards

This maximum-term role offers an excellent opportunity to step into a senior clinical leadership position and contribute meaningfully to the ongoing development of our perioperative service.

About you

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Must have more than 3 years’ experience in PACU
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levels
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients
  • Extensive knowledge of current National ANZCA standards as well as ACORN Standards and their alignment with the Perioperative Department
